Microsoft recently announced the certification track around Windows Server 2016. Like with Windows Server 2012 it consists of three different certifications,
- 70-740 – Installation, Storage, and Compute with Windows Server 2016 ( Study guide)
- 70-741 – Networking with Windows Server 2016
- 70-742 – Identity with Windows Server 2016
Exam 740 is scheduled for beta release in early October 2016, with the other exams following soon after.
If you already have an MCSA: Windows Server 2012 or MCSA: Windows Server 2008 certification you can upgrade to the new 2016 certification through a upgrade exam:
- 70-743 – Upgrade Your Skills to MCSA: Windows Server 2016
Microsoft Press confirmed that exam study guides are coming in december and since I hate waiting, I decided to gather whatever information I found available on the Internet to create study guides to help prepare for the exams already now.
A good starting point for those that haven’t worked alot or haven’t tested Windows Server 2016 is to start by reading the free ebook on Windows Server 2016 which can be found here –> https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=sesdDAAAQBAJ and downloading an evaluation here –> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-server-technical-preview
NOTE: Technical Preview 5 expires December 31, 2016.
Upon installation, you will be prompted to activate. Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 5 will require a product key:
- Standard Key: MFY9F-XBN2F-TYFMP-CCV49-RMYVH
- Datacenter Key: 6XBNX-4JQGW-QX6QG-74P76-72V67
There is also an Microsoft Virtual Academy video on what’s new in Windows Server 2016 –> https://mva.microsoft.com/en-US/training-courses/whats-new-in-windows-server-2016-16457
NOTE: Since some of the documentation is still a bit lacking, expect some delay before all the study guides are complete! and some of the links in the study guide points to 2012 R2 content, but some of the features are unchanced therefore the articles to 2012 R2 are still valid.
