Finding the passion for writing again

You know I’ve been writing on this blog (and former iterations of it) for the last 14 years… and while the number of visitors I get on this site has dwindled significantly over the last 4 years the same can be said for my passion for writing… In between these last 14 years I have also written numerous books and articles on other websites (close to 140+ articles, couple of eBooks and published 5 different books) not to brag too much, but I am still a bit impressed with the amount of content I have managed to push out there..

I have always had a focus on using this as a platform to learn new stuff new technologies and try out new things and as an added bonus even help other people in the process which are stuck on the same thing. The last part has given me so much value before, when I got messages like “Thank you blog post helped me when I was stuck!”

Then in all of this came AI or more specifically GenAI, which can now write content for your using some simple prompts and adding some data sources. It could also help you with troubleshooting when you get a specific error message or stuck on something to troubleshoot. In combination of this came all the “noise” on social media, where people are more focused on being content creators or pushing out content faster. As an added bonus more and more people are using GenAI as their troubleshooting assistant, which makes sense… I use it myself all the time to figure out things or help me troubleshoot when you have a log file that is riddeled with wierd bogus error messages.

Anyway in the midst of this as I said earlier by passion for writing was almost gone, where I went from publishing once a week and now I probably have one every other month, well I was debating with myself should I put this blog on the shelf? should I focus elsewhere?

Then out of the blue I got a message from someone that said that one of my blogpost was really helpful on one of the later topics that I was working on. I also concluded that my goal is not to be a content creator fulltime (and I hate youtube videoes) and not someone that is out there to push AI generated slop content. I want to use this to write my own reflections on topics and content (even if I might be a bit to honest) and lastly I figured out that I was a bit to stressed, stressed to write new content, stressed on what topics I should write about, which ended up with my drafts folder having 150+ unfinished posts which I most likely will never finish.

Therefore I want to start on a clean slate, removing drafts folder and start to write more technical content again since in midst all of this I managed to find my passion for writing again.

TLDR: Lost my passion for writing, found it again more content coming!
